That is a word right? I think I have a problem.. I am constantly having this urge to decorate the house.. move things around, hang pictures and artwork.. paint something! ha ha! I seriously have a full gallon of beautiful gold-ish paint, and I am scouting out something to paint. I bought it for my office french doors.. but that just seems like too much work, so I have turned to the walls.. or a frame or something... nothing is safe at the moment! ha ha!
Yesterday I went into the bedroom.. and three hours later I was done. THREE HOURS? Not what I planned on doing yesterday! ha!
I know I know.. it looks pretty much the same right? OK, here come some confessions..
Confession #1.. I love a good bargain. So, when I was perusing Winners over Christmas with my mom (she like perusing Winners as much as I do) I spotted this FAB duvet cover for $40 or something ridiculous like that. Yes, it is a lot like our last one (I would go find a link.. but I am seriously lazy this morning).. but the blue is more aqua-y and it is definitely more mix and matchable! Less 'sea-ish' theme too.. that was kind of bugging me about the last one... and it had a hole in it. So see.. I totally needed this one. There, I justified it. hee! It has a lovely damask pattern that fits oh so well in our house!
Confession #2.. I am not afraid to purchase something at Walmart for the house. For a while there.. I was a wee bit snobbish, and only wanted things I could get online in boutiques.. the unattainable... well, I do still like all of that stuff (and boy oh boy do I have a wish list).. but when I see a cute little black and white embroidered throw cushion at Walmart... I am gonna buy it! x2 even! hee! Even if it means getting James to dig through the top shelf to find one that isn't all dirty! ha ha! No.. our Walmart definitely isn't a nice clean Walmart. They have some really good stuff lately!
Confession #3... I like to steal things from other parts of the house when going on a redecorating spree! Like that Turquoise pillow. It was on the couch. Until yesterday. I think the 2 love birds are much more suiting to a bed.. don't ya think!? Now I need to find a new pillow for the couch. Maybe I will peruse Winners. hee!
Confession #4.. I have a HUGE thing for throw pillows. It may be a problem actually. Ask anyone who has visited our house..
That bowl on the nightstand.. it was somewhere else yesterday as well. It had a home on my sewing table and held spools of thread. Not no more! hee!
Confession #5.. I will never ever feel like I am done decorating. That is good thing right? Even if it just means I move things around. Right now, I am thinking I need a subtle patterned yellow top sheet folded over.. yep, not until I find a good bargain though. :)
Confession #6.. every now and then, I need to splurge. Like these candle sticks. Not that they were a huge splurge. They were only $15 each (again, at Winners).. but a bit much for something that wasn't reeaaaaaaally necessary. To a non decorating-holic that is. To me.. totally necessary.
Aren't they pretty? Totally worth the $30 if you ask me.
Confession #7.. I am not afraid to dig out an old throw blanket from the closet to cover unsightly stains on ottoman cover. Why oh why would I have ever chose a white ottoman cover anyway? We have dogs.. and KIDS for crying out loud! Unsightly stains are on the side corner there.. from the dogs rubbing up against (for a while there we only had a dirt lawn.. and the dogs tended to get a wee bit dusty)... and the other stains are chocolate. From the little chocolate monster who like to sit up there and watch Thomas on the TV. Add a throw blanket.. much better. :) Chandelier decal thingie was in the storage room, left over from a set.. I put the first one up in the family room a few months ago. :)
Confession #8.. I stole these from my mom. Kidding! She gave them to me. They are beautiful. We were cleaning out her closet last summer and she found them. They are hand coloured black and white photographs.. originals. From back when all there was was black and white photographs. They were framed in ugly frames and mounted on yellowed mat board.. not the prettiest. But I knew better. I brought them home and framed them in crisp white. I think my mom wanted them back when she finally saw them last week. She let me keep them though. ;)
Confession #9.. I never ever think something has to actually be functional to use it. If it looks pretty.. I am game! Like that lamp there. Broken. Doesn't work. Harley knocked it off the side table in the family room a few too many times (in his defense, it really is a tall, very unstable lamp). I like it though. It was in the storage room too. I couldn't bring myself to toss it. I will get it re-wired one day, and then it will work again. James got home last night, went in the bedroom.. first thing he said (after how much he likes the room) was.. "I think it is funny that you put a broken lamp in there" ..notice how it wasn't "I think it is dumb that you put a broken lamp in there" ..he gets me. ha ha ha! I replied with "we don't have to tell anybody it doesn't work.. it will be our little secret!" I think I blew that one out of the water by bloggin it huh!? I think I need to move that vase in front of it though.. it is bugging me now that I look at the pictures.
Confession #10.. Sometimes I think it is a really good thing to spend $100 (duvet cover, 2 throw pillows and 2 candlesticks.. not bad huh!?) on a room to make it feel like you want it to. Yep. I love our room now. Love it. I want to curl up and read a book all day. Before, it was the one room that just didn't feel right. So so so happy with it now. :)
Back to the 3 hours part.. not to sure how it happened. Because really.. all I did was change the bedding, wash the ottoman cover and put it all together again, dust, and put the wall decal up. All the pictures were already hung.. so how on earth did it take me 3 hours!? I'll blame the dust. hee heee!
OK, one more..
Confession #11.. I think I need to paint that far wall in the bathroom.. just to add a splash of colour to the bedroom. What do you think?
Later!

Was going to suggest the gold paint for the bathroom...but might agree with another remark to paint it turquoise. hmmm...another decorating dilemma begins.
Get out those paint chips!

I throughly enjoyed that. (It just took me three tries to spell throughly - sheesh!) Anyway....totally magazine worthy. My fave FAVE are the candlesticks. Beyond worth $30.00!

What a gorgeous space!! Thanks for sharing. The aqua colour in your duvet cover would look very nice on your bathroom wall:)

Your decor is very inspirational. I love the colors...would you share the name of the brown/taupe wall color? It's beautiful as it makes your trim color really pop. I see you've already been asked for the information on the green paint...it's great too. My New Year's resolution is to finally finish making my house into a home. I picked up a really good book for decorating help called "At Home With Laurie Ann". It's by an interior decorator who I seem to connect with as her recommendations are budget conscious and I'm finally getting the look I want by using pieces what I already have but that need a little updating. I know exactly where I'll use that taupe colored paint of yours. Thanks for the great article. http://www.laurieann.com/book/

what did you say about goldish paint? Is it a pretty light color that would go with this room's style? you did say you wanted to use it....and you did say you might want to paint that wall...maybe you could add those two ideas together? Or you could just laugh and call me crazy!! heehee

Holy Moly! I just sent this post to my husband with "this bedroom is my dream" in the subject line. You are crazy talented at putting things together!! Any chance you'd share links for the love sign on the wall, the birdie pillow and that green paint color? Thanks so much for posting this!
