Current status... crazy.

OK.. wanna see?  I know I promised pretty pictures.. you know, the official 'after' photos, I said I would have those up right away right?

Wrong.

How about you take a walk with me, and you will see what I mean.  Let's start at the top of the stairs and head down to the family room, shall we?

Oh oh.. that doesn't look quite right does it? lol  Well, if the massive amount of filler and repairs all over the walls already, you may have guessed that the beige got the better of me.  My 'maybe someday' paint plan is going to be a 'why the heck not' sort of plan. lol

Now that we near the bottom of the stairs, we are going to turn towards the family room.. oh, and there is my craft space (the only room down here free of chaos)!

If it isn't already obvious.. with the amount of little dents and holes in the walls, it was definitely due for a fresh coat of paint anyway. ;)

One thing I have learned already.. kids are hard on walls. lol

Now, let's keep going down and around the corner...

Ohhhh, looky!  Pretty!  So nice and fresh.. very welcome colour for this dark space!  

You are probably wondering what that spot of white filler is doing on that wall though, right?  I did just finish painting it after all.

Another thing I have learned.. I am hard on walls too.  Got it with the vacuum nozzle the other day as I was cleaning the rabbit pen.  Nice.

Keep on going around the corner..

Whoa!?  Yes.. we are all hard on walls apparently.  Harley thinks this couch in the middle of the room thing is pretty fun!  Yes.. he pretty much lives in those jammies.  Can't blame him, really.

See the corner?  Sample paint #1 (strayed from my original thoughts and randomly picked something different.. silly me).  Close, but not quite.  Purple-ish/pink undertones.  So crazy how different paint looks when it is actually on the walls.

Well, there you have it.  Current status.. nowhere near done. lol  Project paint just got a whole lot bigger.. next up, main floor! ahhh!

loving..

I am sooo loving the colour!  

I know I know.. what kind of tease is this right? 

Not so much loving the beige still.. but I am going to try my best to live with it for now. Painting the rest of the room should be a breeze though, nothing can compare to the moving and then replacing of the crazy huge wall unit thingie.

Oh.. I suppose the mirror.  The first thing James said to me after we were finished leveling the wall unit was.. "remember how hard it was to hang that mirror?" ha ha ha!!  He is so on to me! ha!  Yes.. the mirror does weigh like 100 pounds and was crazy hard to hang.  BUT.. the rest of the room.. sooo easy! ha!

Maybe.. paint around it? *smirk*

I think I might steal some art from around the house to hang.. and then I will share a picture of the whole room.  It is coming along though!

This crazy lady sure isn't wasting any time! ;)

James picked up the paint on the way home from work last night (saved me having to go out on post snow storm roads).. I am *hoping* to have the side parts of the wall painted by tonight.. then James (who is also crazy for agreeing to be on board with this lol) will move that massive wall unit out of the way so I can paint behind it.. and that should be that!  Well, and putting it all back together again.. ha!

Funny story.. in our last house, I also got the urge to paint the family room after a few years of being there... know what I did?  I just painted around that huge piece of furniture.  True story.  Made moving interesting, had to track down the paint and ummmm.. fill in the blanks. hee!  I don't think the new owners would have loved the look. ha ha 

I decided we should do it the 'proper' way this time around though.  Time to go dig out the sand paper and finish up the prep!  Can't wait to get some paint up!!

crawl inside my brain for awhile?

It is almost 5pm on Saturday afternoon.. and so far today, all I have done is look at paint colours.  Ca-razy.  So, why am I asking you to call inside my brain for awhile?  Because you really need to truly understand the bizarre way my brain works.. or you will just think I am nuts.  Oh, who am I kidding.. you are going to think I am nuts anyway.

This all started with wanting to paint out a few of the dark walls in the house.  There is a dark brown colour in the family room, the dining room and the living room.. all the same brown, painted on one feature wall in each room.  I don't mind the colour.. I guess you could say that I am just craving more colour, instead of neutral.

That dark brown is a colour we chose before we moved in.. before we even had a colour combo to think of, it was safe.. which is totally fine!  Also, when we bought the house.. we didn't get to choose the main beige throughout (we came on board too late).  Again, not a bad beige.. just a little overwhelming and a bit on the dark side.  Especially in the winter with our limited sunshine. 

Here comes the crazy..

I don't even have plans to paint out all that main colour right away, but since I was choosing new accent colours for three rooms, I wanted to make sure that these new colours and the existing accent colours would match whatever lighter shade may go up later.  So yes.. I spent the whole entire day choosing a colour I don't even plan on using right away. ha ha.  Nuts right?

Do you know how many shades of beige there are?  It is mind boggling.

Then I got off track.. because in a perfect world, I would love to paint it all out in a light grey colour.  BUT.. that just wouldn't work with the backsplash and tiles and countertop and blah blah blah.  Seriously, I have gone mad.  So, in the end.. I found two new shades of beige that I actually really like, much less saturated and pinkish (yes, that part bugs me to lol) than what is up now.  A lighter one for the basement (because there are no windows in the family room, it tends to feel like a cave).. and another for the main floor.

That part took hours.  Like seriously, most of the entire day.  I should have kept track of how many possibilities there were.  Remember.. this is a 'maybe' colour we are talking about here!

Now that I had the whole 'maybe someday' beige (x2) chosen.. picking the other colours was a breeze!  I have been obsessed with this post over here at Young House Love ever since I saw it.  Inspiration for the dining room wall.. found!  Living room wall isn't 100% yet, but I am thinking an equally as rich moss green.  The basement though is a whole other story.. I decided to go with a whole new colour to accent the family room, and chose an aqua-ish green colour.. kind of a combo between the kitchen and a darker turquoise.

7. possible living room accent colour (not yet painted) - not sure of the colour (lost the booklet I cut it out of.. I know it is Behr Premium Plus though)
8. hallway and office doors - Behr Premium Plus Pyramid Gold  
9. railing - Tudor House (not sure which line)  
10. accent wall in bedroom, patio doors and veranda door.. as well as spare room downstairs - Benjamin Moore Jalepeno Pepper  
11. playroom - Martha Stewart Beryl  
12. craft room - Behr Anonymous 
13. family room accent (not yet painted) - Behr Aspen Aura 
14. main colour for basement - Martha Stewart Ash Bark
15. storage room - CIL Wheat Bread

Crazy right?  So many colours.. but they all look so pretty together!  The good news is, not toooooo much work ahead, unless I decide to go with the alternative beige colours.. then wow, yikes actually! lol  Oh well.. I would also loooove to replace the counter top with something along the same lines as the colour of the railing.. a charcoal-ish brown.  I know that sounds pretty bad, since there is nothing wrong with this counter top.. which is why I will make it work.. just dreaming out loud here. :)

Anyhoo.. I think this is going to become a regular feature on the blog.  I might come up with a new name other that "crawl inside my brain' ha ha.. or maybe not, either way.. I am looking sooo forward to sharing the process here.  Maybe it will help me keep on track.. ;)
